THINKING AHEAD

HELLO, NEW
COLLEAGUE AI

When introducing AI, the added value for employees and customers is what matters most. Five use cases show how Geis and Quehenberger are using AI tools to make logistics more efficient – from scheduling to customer contact. At Quehenberger, the new colleague even has a name and a face: QI, the cute in-house AI assistant, recently joined the team.

Knowledge Management

In Germany, Geis works closely with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics and is testing apps from the Fraunhofer AI platform Omnistics. In doing so, Geis is contributing to the further development of the applications, such as the chat and voice assistant LoOmni-Chat. In the future, it will enable Geis employees to quickly access company knowledge, for example from SharePoint. Quehenberger also uses a chat assistant called Quehenberger Intelligence (QI). This in-house tool accesses both internal documents and external knowledge. The goal: to complete routine tasks more efficiently and free up more time for creative and strategic work.

02

Customer Contact

At Geis CEE’s Customer Care Centers in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, an AI-powered email bot supports our employees in handling incoming inquiries – often regarding shipment status or changes to delivery dates. Depending on the subject line, content, language, and sender, emails are automatically forwarded or provided with a suggested response, which our employees review and approve. Because, despite all the efficiency, providing personalized service to our customers remains a matter close to our hearts.

03

Warehousing and Operational Processes

Together with the Public Cloud Group, Geis is working on an AI-powered ABC analysis for warehouse space. The goal is to store A-items near items that are frequently ordered to shorten picking routes and process orders faster. Geis also uses AI-Walker: this tool analyzes purchase invoices and identifies details such as document type and shipment number for further processing in the system.

04

Programming

In IT, Geis relies on programming assistants that support the writing, testing, and optimization of code. This reduces manual effort and ensures consistent code quality. Developers can thus focus more on complex tasks, while the tools handle routine work in the background.

05

Planning

Geis also uses Omnistics apps for demand planning: Frostimate is designed to help estimate freight rates by using AI to generate a reference price based on shipment parameters and historical price data. Capcast forecasts truck freight volume to better plan capacity.

“I’m new to the team – but I learn fast. And I never forget.”
