ZERO-EMISSION CITY LOGISTICS
DM AND QUEHENBERGER
ELECTRIFY VIENNA
Ten electric trucks deliver to around 100 dm stores in Vienna – without any noise or emissions. Together with Quehenberger, dm has revamped its city logistics – sustainable, efficiently planned, and technologically sophisticated.

Quehenberger Logistics and the drugstore retail chain dm drogerie markt have reached an important milestone in Vienna: inner-city deliveries to the approximately 100 dm stores are now largely carried out by electric trucks. Ten vehicles are in daily use for this purpose. They replace diesel-powered last-mile deliveries and make a measurable contribution to reducing emissions and noise pollution in the city.
Economical and Ecological
To achieve this, long-standing logistics partner Quehenberger and dm jointly analyzed the transport routes in Vienna down to the last detail: routes were replanned, capacities calculated, loading points coordinated, and time windows optimized. The result: Ten electric trucks now cover the entire demand for inner-city dm deliveries in Vienna efficiently, reliably, and almost silently. “Together with partners like dm, we develop tailor-made solutions that combine economic efficiency with environmental responsibility,” emphasizes Paul Weissenberger, project manager at Quehenberger Logistics.
The environmental impact can be clearly quantified:
will be saved by dm in 2026 alone thanks to the new transportation strategy. This corresponds to about 2.78 million kilometers driven by cars or the annual electricity consumption of roughly 278 households. For Vienna, this means not only cleaner air but also noticeably less noise in the already heavily congested inner-city area.

Intelligently Connected
Quehenberger Logistics has been committed to e-mobility since 2018. As a pioneer in the industry, the company works closely with suppliers to optimize the performance and practicality of electric commercial vehicles. What matters most is not just the powertrain, but the intelligence behind it. Quehenberger relies on high-performance IT systems and AI-based route planning. This minimizes empty runs, makes optimal use of cargo capacity, and reduces downtime. As a result, the electric trucks do not need to be recharged during deliveries to dm stores. Each delivery is part of a digital puzzle that the system constantly recalculates. The goal: to move as much merchandise as possible with as little mileage as necessary.
A Sustainable Model for the Future
The collaboration between dm and Quehenberger in Vienna serves as a pilot and showcase project for other urban regions. Both partners plan to apply the lessons learned to other metropolitan areas and gradually expand their electric fleets. This way, the project demonstrates how urban logistics can be developed in a sustainable manner – with concrete, measurable results for the climate, air quality, and quality of life in the city.
