NO SOONER SAID THAN DONE

COMPANY-OWNED NETWORK
IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

Today, the Geis Group operates in 14 countries. Starting with its general cargo network in Germany, the company has continuously expanded its presence in Central and Eastern Europe since 1991. Customers such as SKF benefit from the company’s long-standing market knowledge and experience with country-specific requirements.

The map of global supply chains is currently being redrawn. Complexity is increasing, connections are becoming fragile, and dependencies need to be reduced. Companies are therefore increasingly focusing on neighboring countries in Central and Eastern Europe – whether they want to tap into new sales markets, relocate production sites, or diversify their sourcing. Recent surveys such as KPMG’s “German-Central Eastern European Business Outlook 2026” see page 35 underscore this trend and its strategic importance. But the path eastward must be well planned to ensure that the flow of goods remains uninterrupted. Country-specific toll systems, new e-invoicing requirements, the impact of the EU Mobility Package, language barriers, and a supplier market dominated by subcontractors demand detailed expertise and a robust logistics infrastructure – for high quality, reliable transit times, and transparency at the touch of a button.

We’re right at home there

For the Geis Group, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and the countries of the Adriatic region are not new markets. On the contrary: a well-established presence, a dense network of company-owned locations, well-coordinated teams, employees with in-depth knowledge of the local markets, and a thorough understanding of the economic and cultural conditions set Geis apart in this economic region. Geis customers can count on professional, streamlined, and customized logistics solutions – whether they are new to these markets or have been operating there for a long time. But where does Geis’s strength in Central and Eastern Europe come from? The foundation was laid in 1991, when the market economy took hold in what was then Czechoslovakia. In an environment where private logistics networks first had to be established, Geis was among the first players in the market, with the founding of Geistransport s.r.o. in Pilsen. The pioneering achievement back then has turned into an infrastructure deeply rooted in the market today. In the Czech Republic alone, the Geis network comprises 24 locations with more than 1,600 employees. Poland has also seen dynamic growth recently, with Geis significantly increasing its shipment volume last year.

A dense, in-house general cargo network in Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia forms the foundation for reliable general cargo transport. Supply chains that function even under pressure

A tightly scheduled and highly standardized network for general cargo and full-truckload transport guarantees predictability and efficiency at the highest level. Daily departures and precise transit time commitments form the backbone of stable supply chains. Sven Wirth, Head of Business Development Road Germany, shares insights from his daily work: “Many customers today make a very clear distinction between those who merely organize transport and those who truly understand supply chains. Ultimately, they opt for reliability, accessibility, and a setup that works even under pressure.”

“We are proud of the trust SKF has placed in us. As the sole service provider, we were given the opportunity to completely rethink a setup that had been in place at SKF for over two decades.”

A Custom Solution for SKF

A prime example of Geis’s custom solutions is the long-standing partnership with SKF in Schweinfurt, Germany. SKF is regarded as a globally recognized leader in drive and mechanical engineering; the company stands for innovation, durability, and quality. Together with Geis, SKF wanted to go beyond the standard in logistics as well and take the predictability and precision of supply chains to automotive and industrial customers to a whole new level – precisely because of the growing risk of potential disruptions on routes, at transshipment terminals, or at borders. The approach: not just to optimize existing processes, but to rethink the supply chain from the ground up.

The result is a unique concept based exclusively on Geis’s own Homeland network: Goods are picked up centrally in Schweinfurt and transported directly to the Geis hub in Brno, Czech Republic. Here, shipments are not only transshipped but also processed further as needed: mixed pallets containing goods for different recipients are deconsolidated, the individual shipments are relabeled, and they are precisely prepared for their respective main routes to Slovakia or Hungary – in Hungary, this is handled by Geis’s subsidiary Quehenberger, which brings extensive expertise in the Central and Eastern European markets.

“The solution we’ve built with Geis gives us the control and transparency we need – especially on Central European routes, where operations can quickly become complex.”

MATTHIAS SMUDA
Manager Transport and Intralogistics at SKF Group

The operational nerve center is the Geis Control Tower in Bad Neustadt, the single point of contact for SKF. This is where all data flows converge, and our team serves as the central point of contact that keeps track of everything: It monitors the transport process, coordinates the operational units in the respective countries, and ensures complete transparency. Daily reports automatically provide SKF with a precise overview of the status of every single shipment, including planned and actual delivery dates. This allows deviations to be identified early on, and the client to be proactively informed. SKF is thus able to inform its own customers about delivery status at an early stage as well, fostering customer satisfaction.

Regional Strength Becomes a Strategic Customer Advantage

For SKF, this tailor-made solution is more than just a successful logistics project. It exemplifies how Geis creates strategic value through deep regional knowledge and operational excellence. It is no longer just about transporting goods from A to B. It takes a partner who understands the local rules of the game, owns its own infrastructure, and makes its network available as a stable bridge to the European growth markets of tomorrow.
